How ear piercing works

  1. Consultation: position, jewellery, healing.
  2. Marking: you check the spot in the mirror.
  3. Piercing: Sterile, with a needle or a gun. If you are having two piercings, Levent makes sure they are level.
  4. Aftercare info: cleaning and what to avoid.
  5. Check-up: By arrangement, Levent checks at the studio how the jewellery is sitting.

Initial jewellery for the earlobe

  • Initial jewellery: a simple stud with room for swelling.
  • After healing: hoops, drop earrings, heavier earrings.
  • Material: implant-grade titanium is considered well tolerated; choose nickel-free if you have a nickel allergy.

Ear piercing: healing and aftercare

Rough guide: around 6–8 weeks. Only change the jewellery after that.

What is normal?

At first, redness, slight swelling and crusting. Avoid snagging, pressure from your phone or headphones and wearing heavy earrings too soon.

Aftercare

  • Wash your hands before touching it.
  • Soften crusts with the recommended cleaning solution.
  • Don't twist the jewellery.
  • Keep hairspray, make-up and perfume away from it.

In detail: piercing aftercare step by step.

See a doctor if redness, swelling or pain get worse after the first few days, the area feels hot, pus comes out or you develop a fever. Do not remove the jewellery yourself.

FAQ: Ear piercing

How long does an ear piercing take to heal?

As a rough guide, around 6–8 weeks. Soft tissue with a good blood supply heals faster than cartilage. Keep the initial jewellery in for that long.

Does getting your ears pierced hurt?

It is brief and easy to bear, like a firm pinch. Afterwards the ear may feel warm and throb slightly.

Are ears pierced with a needle or a gun?

Needle or gun – whatever you prefer. With a needle, the jewellery goes straight into the piercing channel; with a gun, the stud is inserted in a single step.

When can I change my earrings?

Only once the piercing has healed: no longer tender, red or crusty. If you change too early, the channel can become irritated or close up again.

At what age can I get my ears pierced?

We pierce ears from age 6. Under 18, you need your parents' consent.
