What is a microdermal?
One point instead of an entry and an exit.
Under the skin there is a small flat plate, the anchor, which tissue grows around. The visible top sits on it, for example a small stone.

How a microdermal is done
- Consultation: position, jewellery, healing.
- Marking: you check the spot in the mirror.
- Piercing: Under sterile conditions, a small pocket is created under the skin, the anchor is inserted and the top is screwed on.
- Aftercare info: cleaning and what to avoid.
- Check-up: By arrangement, Levent checks at the studio how the jewellery is sitting.
What you should know beforehand
- Snagging on clothing or hair is the most common cause of irritation.
- Rejection: the body can push the anchor upwards and out.
- Removal only by a piercer or doctor; a small scar usually remains.
Microdermal: healing and aftercare
Levent discusses with you how long a microdermal will take to heal in your case.
What is normal, when should I see my piercer?
At first, redness, slight swelling, a little blood or fluid. See your piercer if the top starts to lift, the anchor shows through or the skin over it gets thinner.
Aftercare
- Wash your hands before touching it.
- Soften crusts with the recommended cleaning solution.
- Don't twist the jewellery.
- No tight clothing over it.
- Only change the top after healing, ideally at your piercer's.
In detail: piercing aftercare step by step.
See a doctor if redness, swelling or pain get worse after the first few days, the area feels hot, pus comes out or you develop a fever. Do not remove the jewellery yourself.
FAQ: Microdermal
How long does a microdermal take to heal?
Levent discusses this with you. During this time, tissue grows around the anchor under the skin that holds the jewellery.
Does a microdermal hurt?
Usually a brief, sharp moment, then pressure as the anchor goes in. The area may be tender for a few days.
How long does a microdermal last?
It can't be predicted. Some people wear one for a very long time; in others the body pushes the anchor out – depending on the placement and how often it gets snagged.
Can I remove a microdermal myself?
No. The anchor sits under the skin and has to be removed by a piercer or a doctor. Pulling on it yourself can injure the skin.
Can I change the top of a dermal?
Yes, after healing – it is usually screwed on. The first change is best done by your piercer, because the anchor has to be held in place.
Where can you get a microdermal?
On flat areas of skin such as the cheekbones, the back of the neck or the hips. Areas with a lot of friction from clothing or a lot of skin movement are less suitable. The consultation clarifies what works for you.
